Today, Wednesday 14th June 2017 which marks World Blood Donor Day, the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) is seeking to encourage blood donation and increase knowledge of the important cause.

This year WBDD is being marked under the theme: “What can you do? Give blood. Give now. Give often.”

Barbara Joseph, Laboratory Manager at MSJMC indicated via a press release, “Our patients rely on life-saving blood and blood products every day, not only those with trauma but patients receiving cancer treatment and those who need surgery.”

She said that this is a safe, simple and impactful way to change the lives of others in our community. She further thanked all their blood donors and encourages others to remember that one donation can save up to three lives.

On World Blood Donor Day the World Health Organisation is emphasizing the role that every individual can play in preparing for the next unforeseen emergency by giving blood now.

The featured activity for this year’s WBDD celebration is a national blood drive being hosted by the Ministry of Health at 39’ers Square today Wednesday June 14th from 10am to 5pm.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a voluntary blood donor please call the MSJMC Laboratory at (268) 484-2720/2767.
