A Jennings man died at the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre on Sunday afternoon, after he attempted to save a teenager from drowning.
The incident occurred at the Fort James Beach where the deceased identified as Leroy Simon encountered difficulties while saving another.
Both were said to be swimming in the rough waters of Fort James when the teen encountered difficulties. Simon tried to save the un-named survivor but he too encountered difficulties.
Both individuals were rescued however Simon was said to be unconscious when the Emergency Medical Services arrived.
Simon was later pronounced dead at the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre, while the teen was treated and later discharged from the hospital. Many are describing the act as heroic.
