The Principals of AMAZON, the distribution company well known to many online shoppers, are currently on island to cement plans for the creation of approximately 500 additional jobs within the country.
According to Cabinet notes, the officials arrived on their private jet on Wednesday and will spend 24 hours on island.
Through its affiliate in Antigua, AMAZON has been persuaded to build an operation close to the UWI Five Islands Campus so that nearly 500 highly competitive and technically savvy students can be employed during the years when they are pursuing higher education.
The document further read that the marriage between the new industry and smart students is already taking place in Jamaica and across India.
Antigua will be joining a growing number of states that have found value in securing employment for students; a mix which will provide working experience while the youthful group learns other kinds of skills at the tertiary level.
In his Independence address to the nation last year Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced the creation of 500 new jobs in 2017 at the Expert Global Solutions, a call center that will also partner with Amazon and the government to construct a new training facility at the Five Islands Campus.
