In an effort to increase efficiency in the management of pesticides and toxic chemicals in the country, the Pesticides & Toxic Chemicals Control Board (PTCCB) of the Ministry of Agriculture has implemented new regulations governed by “THE PESTICIDES AND TOXIC CHEMICALS ACT of 2008.
According to the Board, Effective immediately, all importers of pesticides and toxic chemicals will be required to obtain an importation license for pesticides and or toxic chemicals prior to their importation into the country.
Pesticide Dealers, Manufacturers and Pest Control Operators are also informed that they are required to be certified by the Pesticides & Toxic Chemicals Control Board before engaging in such activities.
In addition the Board will be embarking on a certification of storage and sales outlets for pesticides and toxic chemicals. Stakeholders are asked to ensure that their premises conform to the standards as stipulated by the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals Regulations, 2013.
Meantime the Pesticides & Toxic Chemicals Control Board is reminding the general public that only registered pesticides will be allowed into the country.
