Bethesda Man Charged for Cultivation of Over 3,000 Cannabis Plants

A Bethesda man was on Friday remanded to the St. John’s Police station after being busted for cultivating over 3,000 cannabis plants.

43yrs old Ivan Thomas of Bethesda was slapped with three charges on Thursday, namely; Possession of 2lbs of cured cannabis and 3,820 cannabis plants, Cultivation of 3,820 Cannabis plants and, Possession of Cannabis with intent to supply and transfer.

According to a release from StratCom, Officers attached to the All Saints, Liberta and Dockyard Police Stations carried out a drugs eradication exercise in the Bethesda area, on Wednesday and found a cannabis field with 3,820 plants growing. A portion of the cured plant was also discovered in the field.

The police uprooted the plants and took them to the police station along with the cured portion.

Thomas, who was found in the field at the time of the drugs eradication exercise, was arrested and taken into custody.

On Friday He appeared in the St. John’s Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in custody at the St. John’s Police Station until today.

Meanwhile, officers attached to the Barbuda Police Station conducted a similar exercise on Wednesday and netted 13 Cannabis plants growing on a paddock in An area known as Indigo. The plants were uprooted and taken to the police station pending further investigations. No suspect is in custody.
