For the 10th year in a row, the Scotia Bank has lent a hand to the AIDS Secretariat by partnering with the organization for Regional Testing Day.

Its annual Street Fair was held on Friday in front of Scotia Bank on High Street which attracted a cross-section of participants including Gender Affairs, The Medical Benefits Scheme, BREAST Friends, The Consumer Affairs Division and nutritionists within the Ministry of Health and the Environment.

AIDS Programme Manager Delcora Williams said the Regional Testing period will continue today.

“Yesterday we were in Scotia Bank, now today we continue in Freetown and at the Ottos Community Center giving everyone i Antigua and Barbuda to get tested to know their HIV status,” she said.

Country Manager of the Bank of Nova Scotia, Gordon Julien said it is an event that Scotia Bank is happy to be associated with due to the results that have been generated over the years.

He added that the brand is using their convenient location and the strength to attract persons who conduct banking business on daily basis to get tested.

“The convenient location makes it very easy for persons [coming] into the branches to conduct business,  to also do their HIV testing…….[It] is also a convenient location as it helps to remove the stigma and discrimination associated with getting tested at a [clinic]”, he added.

The AIDS Programme Manager continued by admonishing residents to take advantage of the free testing opportunities offered by the secretariat in order to know their HIV status.

“I would like everyone in Antigua and Barbuda to access testing today because we are open until 8pm tonight, so that the nation can be healthier and happier,” Williams said.
